The dialog continues. Maybe I’m going to have to start subclassing the jokes I find on the net.
Schizophrenia rules the day! On one hand, record companies are reportedly moving toward cheap, unfettered downloads, while on the other hand cable companies are talking about blocking P2P - thank goodness I chose DSL!! Update: I can’t believe I left the office without letting everyone know there’s a new sheriff in town to take care of all those broadcasting DRM problems.!
(8 items listed below)
- Slashdot reports, and discusses, plans by cable companies to block P2P. Sounds like a great way to cut their throats and make DSL providers happy.
- The LATimes is reporting that Sony and Universal are looking at unfettered digital distribution of music this summer. Slashdot has a lame discussion going, but it might get better. On the other hand, part of the problem with the discussion is that it’s focused on the math behind this article.
-
The Seattle Times reports that some people still will look a gift horse in the mouth - Slashdot discusses what is the public domain, anyway?
-
A scholarly look at eBooks and the rights of the disabled on firstmonday - and a compelling article from their archives by Eblen Moglen
- Oops! Looks like Canadian law has left an interesting loophole for webcasting of television broadcasts!
- And it appears you cannot copyright the text of state regulation - proposed regulation, however, is OK.
- Toshiba licenses TiVo technology - a new vendor coming?
-
There’s a new sheriff in town (this link is funnier)! Big, bad Billy Tauzin (R-LA) is going to make sure that the hardware suppliers and content providers all “settle up, peaceable now” by July 15.
